9TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FILM SERIES

THE HOUSE OF BRANCHING LOVE
NEW ENGLAND PREMIERE: Finland, not rated, 102 minutes
A husband and wife decide to unamicably divorce and up the ante by taking on pretend lovers in Mika Kurasmaki's madcap House of Branching Love
Monday, March 15 | 7:00 PM
Writer and director Mika Kuraskmaki's (Sonic Mirror) story about two thirty-somethings—an underpaid family therapist and a harpy, successful business trainer—who remain in their common home for financial reasons while awaiting their divorce. Emotions escalate when each tries to one-up each other with a pretend girlfriend or boyfriend in revenge: the wife brings home a former one-night stand and the husband hires a prostitute to play his new girlfriend. When the prostitute’s Estonian madame arrives on the scene, a virtual Pandora’s box flies open. The film's Shakespearean construction and wounding dialogue separates this War of the Roses style comedy from the rest of the pack.
Mika Kurasmaki's upcoming film, Queen Kristina, stars Sarah Polley.
All films are shown at the Studio Cinema at 376 Trapelo Road in Belmont, Massachusetts, unless specified.
