SPECIAL EVENT: A VISIT WITH REBECCA & ED EMBERLEY
Saturday, November 23 | 1:30 PM
Running Time: Approximately 90 Minutes
Rebecca and Ed Emberley talk about their collaborative creative process and introduce Weston Woods’ animated versions of some of their best known picture books, including the Caldecott Award winning Drummer Hoff, Chicken Little, The Red Hen, and The Ant and the Grasshopper ($8).
The critically acclaimed father-daughter team of Ed and Rebecca Emberley has been creating books for children for over fifty years, collaborating on more than ten titles, three of which have been animated by Weston Woods Studios. Ed, both a Caldecott Award and Caldecott Honor recipient, has illustrated more than 100 books using several illustration styles, from pen and ink to woodcuts to digital. He is also the creator of a series of how-to drawing books in the 1970’s that are still highly used today. Rebecca has illustrated more than forty books that primarily utilize collage—initially with found papers and currently with paper and digital. Ed and Rebecca worked together on The Itsy Bitsy Spider, the first book to be published by Two Little Birds Books, a hybrid children’s press recently founded by Rebecca. Both live in New England: Ed in Ispwich, Massachusetts and Rebecca in Kittery, Maine.
